18. March 2012: Restaurant Pfälzer Weinstube in der Residenz

| March 24, 2012 | 0 Comments

The liver dumpling soup (EUR 3.70) was okay – the soup itself did not taste like much really and the liver dumpling was okay. What was amazing though was how quickly after placing our orders the starter arrived at our table. Even before I was done with my starter the main course arrived.

As a main course I had a beef tatar (EUR 10.80). When the plate arrived I was quite disappointed because it does not look that appealing and also pretty small. But then again, I have to admit, I changed my mind pretty quickly. The meat was separated from the other ingredients like onions, anchovies, capers, and egg so you were able to determine yourself in what mixture you wanted your tatar – and I must admit, it was one of the tastiest tatar I have had in the past few years, definitely great (to be entirely fair the restaurant was recommended to me exactly because of the tatar and I must say that I was very happy that I followed the tipp). The only not so great element was the fact that the only bread which was served with the tatar was some kind of brown bread – not that it was bad or did not really fit, but the bread is just quite heavy compared to regular toast.

The Restaurant Pfälzer Weinstube in der Residenz is located (as the name already implies) in the residence close to the Odeonsplatz and when you enter on the base level you are not really overwhelmed with the interior: The rooms are pretty high and the light is quite bright so you would not want to take a seat there but if you go on the second floor you find kind of another world. The rooms here are like rooms of an old castle – quite nice and welcoming.

The service was good, the waitress was friendly, actually nothing to complain. And the prices are just hilarious – I was told that they are somehow state-supported and, therefore, are non-profit oriented which makes it possible for them to have such low prices but still, I was and am amazed. To sum it up, if you like tatar (definitely 5 stars), you should definitely go there and have one – and make sure to book a table in advance if you want to be seated on the upper floor.
