16. January 2010: Restaurant China Take Away

| January 18, 2010 | 0 Comments

The restaurant China Take Away is located at the Sonnenplatz in the Credit Suisse building in the city of Emmen (about 5 kilometers from Lucerne). The entry of the restaurant is around the corner of the building. When you walk by, you can see to inside of the restaurant: it looks orderly and clean but not really appealing because it looks kind of “arranged without love”.

When you enter the restaurant you’re warmly welcomed by the waiter which brings you to your table. It’s recommendable to make a reservation in advance because the restaurant is always quite crowded and you’ll have to wait at least 15 to 30 minutes in order to get a table when you go there without having a reservation.

Once you’ve taken your place the waiter asks for your drink orders and provides you with the menu. The menu itself is quite exhaustive and it makes it difficult to choose a dish (especially if you’re not such an experienced person in the Asian kitchen).

As a starter we had a “plate of different appetizers” which was, first of all, quite large but also the different kinds of food elements provided on the plate were very tasty. The only shortcoming of this dish was the fact that around 95% of the food on the plate was fried. Although it’s very tasty it is somehow annoying (as the variation is missing) plus it provides you with the feeling that you’ve been eating a lot already after the starter which leads to the fact that you probably won’t be that hungry anymore for the main dishes.

As main dishes we each chose a different plate (fried noodles, sweet and sour chicken and beef with some kind of garlic sauce) and then each person tried each dish. The dishes provided were very delicious especially the beef with the garlic sauce was extremely tasty. The problem was that we already ate kind of too much with the starter.

The waiters are in general very friendly there, only one waiter is kind of confusing and weird. He’s randomly coming to your table and interrupting you basically in the middle of your conversation and is trying to “sell” you another dish, drink or desert. We considered it a bit rude to just come by again and again to try to “sell” something in addition and to interrupt the guests during their conversation –  a no-go!

In general, the China Take Away is a restaurant which offers good food for reasonable prices. It’s probably not the best place to go out when it comes to atmosphere and ambience but the staff is friendly and helpful (to our experience: all but one) and the price-performance-ratio is also acceptable. Remember, when you want to go there, make a reservation because otherwise, it will be difficult to get a table (or you’ll have to wait quite a long time).
