21. March 2012: Restaurant Kim Sang

“I have no clue what the kitchen is doing either” was what one of the waiters told us when we were asking what took them so goddamn long to bring our main courses. We went there early because we figured over the past few weeks that speed and service is not their strongest point. Therefore, we were obviously the first customers around 11:45am. The starters came quite quick. I had Spring Rolls (B1; EUR 2.90) which were as good as always.

And then, the waiting begun and went on and on and on and on and on. After almost 40 minutes when a lot of customers who arrived after us already had had their dishes, we got ours. I had the Sumo Sushi Plate (Nr. 196; EUR 16.60) which was absolutely great – loved it.

The atmosphere was okay as always, it was very nice sitting outside in the sun but I guess you have to book a table in advance in summer if you want to enjoy the sun. Otherwise, it is also quite fine inside.

Now, again about the service – the waiters are friendly, there is nothing to complain about that. Also, their handling of one of my company leaving after 40 minutes because he had to run for an appointment was good (they just did not charge the dish to us). There are two downsides – one is the time it takes to prepare the dishes. I mean, it is absolutely hilarious that you are the first in the restaurant and it takes them more than 40 (!) minutes to prepare the dishes. Really? I don’t think so! The second, far less annoying thing, is that they do not pay too much attention really when you are sitting outside but well you would not care if you had your dishes.

Overall, again, the dishes are good, the sushi is great, the atmosphere is nice but the kitchen definitely has a speed issue. I mean, it is fine that a dish needs time to be prepared and I definitely appreciate the quality of the dishes but it can just not be that one has to wait more than 40 minutes until the dishes arrive – especially during lunch time when people only take a short break. I will go there again – and I hope that they change something with the speed of the kitchen because otherwise that will be it (although it’s damn tasty).
