22. March 2012: Restaurant Feldmann

| March 29, 2012 | 0 Comments

It is not that easy to find outstanding restaurants in Münster I had to figure once more. The restaurant Feldmann looked very promising (high rankings on Google and TripAdvisor) but I would not go there again.

The evening started very promising with an amuse bouche from the kitchen with chicken breast and peas. It was good in taste, nothing overwhelmingly tasteful but definitely sound and good. A nice start into an evening which was a rollercoaster food-wise – but only going down.

The evening continued in a good way – the starter’s plate with eggplant croquettes, king prawn, broccoli turkey, piemientos de padron and salmon in gin marinade (EUR 12.90) was good and the salmon in gin marinade was even very good, only the salmon was a bit too oily for my personal taste.

And then, it begun: As a main course I had a beef filet (200gr) La Morocha quality with reduced redwine jus, vegetables and mushrooms as well as potatoes au gratin (EUR 26.00). The vegetables had a coffee taste, the mushrooms were dry and crunchy, the redwine jus was missing any taste and the beef filet was a beef filet but there was not taste associated with it. It was just plain boring and nothing special at all.

And the potatoes au gratin had way too much cream so it was not so much au gratin but much more au lait (too creamy). Overall, it was okay but nothing more than that.

And finally, I hit the bottom. I decided to try something I did not know and it was definitely a bad idea. I went for herrencreme with Havana Club Cream and dark chocolate pieces (EUR 6.00). I think I have never eaten something so completely lacking of any taste – it was amazingly and incredibly boring. It just tasted like absolutely nothing.

Ranking the single courses I would say the starter gets 4 stars, the main 2 stars and the desert 0 stars – ending up at 2 stars. The sad part is that one could see that there is apparently some kind of talent in the kitchen but I think the amplitude of my ratings has never been that large between the single courses.

The place is nice, nothing too outstanding but sound, clean and nice. The waiter was doing a very good job, I must admit (despite being biased already due to the worsening quality of the dishes). He picked up the orders correctly, the drinks, etc. were brought in due time, dishes set and taken from the correct side. As we were kind of in a separée, the waiter even closed the door after he had brought us our dishes which is definitely not something too usual and proofs good service education.

Overall, I would not go again. I do not know why people think that the food was good here – really, not understanding it at all. The dishes were just plain boring (besides the amuse bouche and the salmon). The waiter does a very good job, no question here, the place is okay, but the prices – although usually quite okay – are too high for what you get. To sum it up: Do not go!
