19. April 2012: Restaurant Au Comptoir de Loic

| April 24, 2012 | 0 Comments

As a starter I had the salmon tatar with truffle and goat cheese – the salmon tatar was fresh and tasty and the goat cheese mixture with truffle fit very well with it. What was a bit of a pity was the fact that the salad was put all over the tatar and, therefore, you had to dig before you were actually able to “access” the tatar.

As a main course I had the duck with morel sauce which was delicious. The duck was pink, tender and the skin was crunchy and very rich in taste. The sauce was rich and made with fresh morels and quite tasty overall. And the portion was also big so you were full after the meal.

The desert was supposed to be a “mango raspberry rosemary crumble” but actually it was more a “strawberry rhubarb crumble”. It was good but it was definitely not what it was supposed to be and, secondly, the rhubarb was not that great for a desert. And it was quite disappointing that you actually got something else than you ordered.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice. The interior is neatly designed, well-thought-out and quite appealing it is a bit dark but somehow it all fits very well together. The music which is played in the background even suits the place – really just perfect.

There was one thing, or rather one person, which was not so perfect in that place: the waitress. To be fair though, it was very entertaining but it was definitely bad service. She had no clue who of us ordered which dish, then she came and asked if we already had our main course (about 3 minutes after she had asked who had ordered what), she was totally unable to cope with the art of serving and place the dishes or glasses on to the table. Interestingly, she showed absolutely no passion for her job. It came clearly across that it was very equal to her how the customers would feel about her service and perceive her. And as her performance was poor I gave her no tip – but when she took the credit card she looked at me for 10 seconds to wait for me to say something and rushed away being pissed off.

The three courses accompanied by the respective wines accounted for EUR 49.00 per person. The price is quite fair but what they sell as “the accompanying wine” is ridiculous. They have a few open wines on the menu and well, the “accompanying wine” is pretty much: you pick from the menu what you want. I mean, that is fine if you write something like you pick the wines you want for your dinner but you should definitely not call it “accompanying wines”.

To sum it up, the Restaurant Au Comptoir de Loic offers great food at very affordable prices, the atmosphere is absolutely nice, the chef does a great job, but the waitress is a joke. In any case, it is recommendable to book a table in advance as the place gets crowded pretty easily and quickly. The food is great (besides the desert), the atmosphere too and the prices are fair. But be aware of the smiling blonde waitress.
