21. April 2012: Café Sacher @Hotel Sacher

| April 25, 2012 | 0 Comments

The wild garlic dumplings with smoked cheese (EUR 14.00) were astonishingly good, especially when you take into account that I had the wild garlic dumplings in the Café Sacher which is not famous for food in general but for its cake. So while the dumplings (spaetzle) were tasty and the cherry tomatoes gave a good balance to the quite intense wild garlic I decided I should …

… try the famous Sacher cake with whipped cream (EUR 4.00). The Sacher cake was good but it was quite dry so a bit disappointing for being so world-famous.

The Sencha Senpai Tea (EUR 4.80) was quite good on the other hand and the tea pot was also quite full so you would have enough. Overall, I must say, the spaetzle were good, the Sacher cake was good but it was somehow disappointing.

If you try the Sacher cake you should definitely take it in the original place, namely, the Café Sacher in the Hotel Sacher and not one of the many side restaurants which are not the original one. The atmosphere is like in an old café house, quite nice and appealing with this kind of “old” touch.

The waiters were friendly and helpful and they even managed to bring the dishes more or less at the same time. If you do not want to wait in the queue you should book a table in advance (I do not know though if it is possible at all). The prices are quite fair too. So overall, I would say it is okay to go to the Café Sacher and try the Sacher cake but frankly it is not a must (more a personal must in the meaning of “been there, done that”). Besides that, I would not go.
