22. April 2012: Restaurant Plachutta’s Gasthaus zur Oper

| April 26, 2012 | 0 Comments

The Viennese Schnitzel with potato salad from the best piece of veal (EUR 17.60) was definitely good but in my opinion it was not really a real Viennese Schnitzel because it was more two Schnitzel than one – and from my point of view, a Viennese Schnitzel should be epically large and this one was not.

The potato salad with onions was fine – nothing to complain but also nothing to praise, just plain good potato salad. The sauce was a bit watery but tasty.

The price is quite fair for a Schnitzel but what is definitely a rip off is that you get charged for each small piece of bread you take (EUR 1.00) and for the butter, too (EUR 0.50). The price for the beer of the house (0,5L; EUR 4.10) is quite fair on the other hand.

Looking at the interior, the place is quite new (opened about 2 months ago) and is nicely decorated. It somehow reminds you of a bathroom as the walls are full with glazed tiles. Still, in general, the place is pretty neatly decorated and inviting. There are two separated tables in distinct rooms (each table has space for about 8 to 10 people) which look very appealing. The waiters do their job but they have absolutely no passion for what they do. I would not say that they are unfriendly but they have absolutely no emotion to either side – not really a way to make a guest feel welcome.

Overall, the food in the Restaurant Plachutta’s Gasthaus zur Oper is okay but not outstanding. The bread and butter charge is a rip off, the waiters do their job and nothing more, the prices are okay and the atmosphere is nice. It is a place you can if you are hungry go to but not a place where I would choose to go again when in Vienna.
