26. April 2012: Restaurant Gino’s
The lamb’s lettuce with chicken strips and pomegranate (EUR 7.90) was a bit too oily but the chicken was juicy and the salad was good in general. The pomegranate gave it a special taste which made it nice – if only they would put less olive oil.
As a main course I had “big salmon ricotta tortelloni in butter and sage with goat cheese” (EUR 11.90). The first bites were pretty good because the stuffing is rich, the red peppercorns made it interesting. The second and third bite were fine too but the fourth hit it – parts of the tortelloni were still frozen. I do understand that it is stressful to prepare many meals during lunch time but half-frozen tortelloni, really? I mean, come on! To be fair though, if they would have been cooked long enough they would have been quite good.
Generally, the prices are high for Germany but acceptable for what you get. A bottle of water (0,75L) accounts for EUR 5.50, a double espresso for EUR 4.40. The atmosphere in the restaurant is okay – nothing special but acceptable. The waiters are friendly but seemed a bit disorganized to me. Also, they did not manage to bring all dishes at the same time for the whole party. Other than that, they are uncomplicated and do their job just fine.
Overall, the Restaurant Gino’s is a place which offers reasonably good food (I have to deduct something for the half-frozen tortelloni) for reasonable prices in a decent atmosphere with acceptable service.
