12. May 2012: Restaurant L’Achepot / L’HPO
The Restaurant L’Achepot / L’HPO apparently is one of the good places in Brussels. The lunch started pleasantly with a little surprise from the kitchen – a pea soup. It was quite thick and tasty.
As a starter we shared “meatballs in a light tomato sauce with French Fries” (EUR 14.00). The meatballs were pretty big but they were quite good with the tomato sauce as that was somehow pretty rich.
And as well the French Fries were pretty tasty.
As a main course I had the “beef tatar the classical way with French Fries and a small salad” (EUR 16.00 or around that). Well, I must say I prefer the beef tatar the “non-classical way” because the classical way is apparently very largely cut meat – not necessarily not tasty but the meat was not fine enough so I ended up having strings in my mouth – not what you really want. As we had French fries to the starter I can say that those were good – but the ones which came with the main course were pretty disappointing – somehow as if they have been taken from the frying oil too early.
The Restaurant L’Achepot/L’HPO seemed pretty nice inside (just looked through the window) and the outside is also okay. The tables are simple but somehow it fits the easy-going atmosphere in that area.
The waitresses were friendly and helpful, the service was good, not outstanding, room for improvement, but generally good. Overall, one can definitely go and eat at the Restaurant L’Achepot/L’HPO – safe address for a sound meal.
