20. May 2012: Restaurant Santa Lucia Niederdorf
The Restaurant Santa Lucia in the Niederdörfli is somehow a place I get dragged into from time to time. I do not exactly know why as the food is not that outstanding but it is also not that bad and overall, it is just an okay place. I only had a tomato soup (CHF 9.00) this time and the soup was quite good. It seemed freshly made or at least smartly refined and had a good and original taste of tomato.
There is a little garden (or something like that) in the back downstairs which is pretty okay to sit outside when it is warm. The surroundings are not that appealing though so if you are looking for a nice place you should rather stay inside where the interior is definitely quite nice. The service is, let us say, doing its job. Although it changed as soon as the waiter changed. The first one was grumpy, not friendly, and just being there. He came to the table and was waiting and looked at us. We waited so he would maybe ask for our orders – which he did not until we just placed them. He did not say a word and walked away. Freakishly! The next waiter which apparently had to take over after Mr. Grumpy had ended his shift was friendly, nice and joyful. Way better!
Overall, the Restaurant Santa Lucia Niederdorf is a safe bet somehow – you do not get disappointed and you do not get surprised. Absolutely a good place to consume food to have appropriate nutrition. But also not more than that!
