26. May 2012: Restaurant Milano

The green salad (CHF 7.50) was pretty regular. The salad was fresh but the sauce came right from the premade sauce can and it was definitely too watery. The glass of prosecco (CHF 8.00) made up for it – at least a bit.

The main course, a “beef filet medium rare with white mushrooms, tomatoes and a loooooot of garlic” (CHF 35.00) was actually very good. The meat was very tender and aromatic, the white mushrooms and tomatoes gave it a special touch and the garlic made it even tastier – but there was a bit too much garlic for my personal taste.

The side dish which came with the main were “Fettuccini” and they were great. Nothing more but refined with butter they were perfectly cooked al dente and just yummy!

The desert, a “Panna Cotta” (about CHF 8.00) was good and the sauce which was a combination of jam and honey made it delicious indeed.

Overall, the dishes were astonishingly good. Why astonishingly? Well, I did not expect it to be good really but it was rather a question of convenience going there. In any case, the food was actually pretty good!

The place is not very atmospheric though – or let me put it that way: It would be rather nice if it was not right next to a very busy street. And if you sit out side you are just 2 meters away from the street, so it is pretty noisy. Other than that it would be nice.

The waiter does his job and he does it well but there is definitely the passion missing. I would not say he was unfriendly but he was definitely not caring at all. He did his best to shout a “enjoy” and the like but you could absolutely see that he was not happy with what he was doing.

The prices are fair though – for the food as well as for the drinks: mineral water (CHF 5.50; 5dl), a coke (CHF 4.00; 3,33dl) and a double espresso (CHF 4.00).

To sum it up, the Restaurant Milano offers pretty good food for very reasonable prices. And if you decide to sit inside it is even okay. But the atmosphere is really not the most appealing and neither is the service.
