31. May 2012 – 1. June 2012: Restaurant @Hotel Eichenhof
You will find the reviews for three meals in this post – lunch – dinner – and lunch again.
31. May 2012 – Lunch
The asparagus cream soup was okay. It tasted quite creamy and had a good consistency. The only part which was a bit disappointing was that it tasted more like cream than like asparagus but at least it was a sound starter.
As a main course I had a chicken breast with breading topping, hash browns, and …
… a salad with balsamico vinaigrette. The chicken breast was okay considering the yummy breading topping, the hash browns were absolutely average and the salad was good again but not really cut in palatable pieces.
The desert was an assortment of berries with cream – and it was not really tasty. The berries were not fresh but came from the can or from the freezer. In any case, the desert definitely lost this round.
31. May 2012 – dinner
In the evening we were served a bouillon with dumplings and vegetables. It was pretty boring in taste – only the dumplings gave it some taste.
For dinner I had the “Matjes” with mayo, onions and gherkins accompanied by fried potatoes with bacon. The potatoes were tasty but pretty greasy, the matjes filet was quite too but the mayo sauce was pretty heavy.
The desert was a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a piece of pear and lots of cream again. The vanilla ice cream was okay but it had frozen parts of ice which made it definitely un-tasty. The pear did not look fresh at all (so I did not even mind trying) and there was a lot of cream again.
Later that evening the highlight of my culinary experience at the Restaurant @Hotel Eichenhof happend: We were brought a cheese platter and for a change that dish was really great. There was a nice selection of different cheeses from creamy and light to pretty salty and taste-intense. It was served with fresh bread and thyme honey – overall a great thing!
1. June 2012 – lunch
As a starter we were served a tomato soup with – again – cream. The soup itself was quite okay in taste and you were even able to find pieces of tomato in the soup but there was again a cream topping. Definitely too much cream being used by that chef.
As a main course I had the Rice Stroganoff with beef stripes which was quite okay. The meat was not outstanding but fit well with the rice and the sauce and vegetables.
Again it was served with salad which was again good but had again not really palatable leaves – well, some things are just as they are.
For desert we had chocolate cream with – guess what? – cream! The chocolate cream was tasty though. But again definitely too much cream.
The atmosphere remains as it was – nothing has changed. Nice, okay, nothing special. The service again was good too, not outstanding but definitely okay. And for the prices, I cannot say as it was covered but assumingly they are quite okay. Overall, if you are into pretty heavy food then the Restaurant @Hotel Eichenhof is good. If you prefer more the light and natural, fat-free kitchen, then you should maybe consider eating somewhere else.
