9. July 2012: Restaurant Shaker’s
The “Original Mojito” with Baccardi Superior, freshly squeezed limes, white sugar and soda (EUR 7.00) is quite delicious. The booze level is high enough but you still taste the fresh limes.
To balance off the booze, the “Starter Teller” with Calamares, Chili Poppers, Mozzarrella Sticks, Onion Rings, Torpedo Shrimps, Chicken Wings, and Tortilla Chips (EUR 13.90) is a good choice. Basically everything but the chips on the plate is fried – and it tastes like fried stuff. Good but heavy. There was one Calamari which was good, the mozzarrella sticks are probably made of analogous cheese, the onion rings were fine, the shrimps seemed pretty artificial, the chicken wings were good and the tortilla chips were actually the best part. It is the perfect dish to fill your stomach – but for nothing else.
The place is quite nice as it is in an inner courtyard and has sofas you can chill in – the waitresses are friendly and nice, do a good job. The bar tender is a bit slow as it takes some time until the drinks are served. The prices are legitimate for the drinks but pretty heavy for Bonn and Germany in general. The platter’s price is fine looking at the amount – but not so much looking at the taste.
Overall, the Shaker’s has good drinks – and that is why you should go there but not to eat.
