20. July 2012: Restaurant Weinhaus Brungs
The Tarte Flambee with sheep cheese, paprika, olives and spring onions (EUR 10.90) was very thin, aromatic, and well garnished. The main course which was a “grilled salmon with a light saffron honey sauce with papardelle and …”
“… a small salad” (EUR 15.90) was good. The salmon was crunchy, the sauce was rich in taste but a bit too thick and the noodles were cooked a bit too long but overall, it was good.
The “cinnamon icecream with prunes” (EUR 5.10) was pretty tasty. The prunes were bathing in booze before, so they were too much caring the smell and taste of booze – but the icecream was very good.
The place is very traditional, the interior is dominated by little corners, dark wood, and lots of original decoration. The waiters were very friendly but not that attentive. The prices on the other hand were absolutely okay – a bottle of Selters (0,7L) costs EUR 5.20 and a bottle of Rioja Gomez Cruz EUR 17.00.
Overall, the Restaurant Weinhaus Brungs is a nice traditional Cologne restaurant with a more European and less Cologne-oriented kitchen. The food is good, the prices are fair, the waiters are friendly, and the place is pretty cool.
