14. February 2010: Restaurant Cheese
The restaurant Cheese is located close to the Navigli area – basically situated between Duomo and the Piazza 24 Maggio, reachable easily by tram number 3. Furthermore, it’s basically the direct neighbour restaurant of Yguana Café (come back somewhen later for a review of that, it’s on “pending”).
The interior of the place is nice, as it is a bit special/different from other places. Especially the ceiling looks kind of confusing, but interesting.
The waiters are friendly when they take your order for your aperitivo drink. What is a bit disappointing though is the fact that even when the place is half empty (as it was when we arrived), it still takes them more than ten minutes to make one Gin Fizz and two Mojitos which i definitely consider too long.
The place gets quite crowded after around 30 to 45 minutes (aperitivo starts at around 7 pm) and then you really don’t have much space as the tables are standing quite close to each other – if you’re not being one of the first to come, you won’t have a nice table and then the atmosphere is definitely not really nice.
The food on the other hand is quite good – especially as the buffet to select your stuff from is quite large and frequently refilled (the picture below shows only about half of the buffet).
The price for the aperitivo is absolutely decent given the food offered: 8 to max. 10 EUR for a drink.
Some see the Cheese as a copy of the Yguana (which it might even be) but I wouldn’t consider it a bad thing as the service, food and price offered is really decent. In summer it’s supposedly even nicer as you will probably be able to sit outside.
