17. October 2012: Restaurant Livingstone

Absolutely amazing meat! No other way to describe it – but first things first: I started with a “lemon grass coco cream soup (with fish, cilantro, scallion)” (EUR 9.80) which was had an intense but also very refreshing taste and it was the perfect preparation for …

the “Simmenthaler beef, 260gr” (EUR 36.00) with pepper sauce. The meat was perfectly medium-rare as requested and it was tender like butter. Definitely dream-like meat! The pepper sauce was also great but it was not necessary to this kind of meat.

As a side dish, I had ordered “fresh spinach leaves with ginger” (EUR 4.90). Compared to the rest this was a disappointment. I mean, they were fresh and they were okay but they somehow lacked intensity of taste (they did not taste like anything at all).

The place itself is – let’s say – special. It is somehow very modern, very classy but on the other hand very simple, kind of dark, small.

The prices are generally okay – the food is not exactly cheap for Austria but the meat and the food in general are very good and, therefore, the prices are appropriate. But also wine (0,1L Grüner Veltliner EUR 3.40; 0,1L Santa Rita EUR 4.90) and water (0,75L Römerquelle, EUR 5.80) are fair in price. The double espresso accounting for EUR 3.90 is already cheap compared to the rest. What is definitely a bit of a no go is the fact that they have cover charge of EUR 2.90 per person! With these prices – outrageous!!!

Our waiters were friendly, quick, and very helpful. There is nothing to complain here – also when it was about paying individually they did not make a big deal out of it and split the bill according to our wishes.

All in all, the Restaurant Livingstone is a great place to enjoy a very good piece of meat in a nice atmosphere and good service for (quite) reasonable prices.
