8. – 9. November 2012: Restaurant @Hotel Eichenhof
I have been a couple times at the Hotel Eichenhof and I must admit this is the first time I can actually say, the food was to my gusto. They somehow managed to put less whipped cream, to focus on taste – definitely an improvement compared to the last times. The breakfast buffet is quite nice, offers a nice small selection of cold cuts, cheese, cereals, juices and bread.
The first day, for lunch (EUR 19.00 for three courses) the main course after a soup (do not remember what kind of soup it was) was salmon with vegetables and rice. The salmon was okay, the vegetables were dull and the rice was plain rice which was okay. The desert was made of berries and whipped cream with a scoop of icecream. Not the best dish ever.
Dinner was a pea cream soup which was rich and chopped pork with hash browns and a small salad which was quite fine too. The meat was okay, the sauce was rich and heavy and went quite well with the has browns. The salad was fine too but is just always exactly the same. I mean, that is fine as it is not bad but it is very very repetitive.
Breakfast was the same again the next day and it was fine again – for lunch (again: EUR 19.00 for three courses) a vegetable soup was served as a starter and then my personal highlight of the three days: rumpsteak with café de paris butter with a salad bouquet and a baked potato with herb cream. The meat was actually good, the café de paris tasty, the baked potato too and the salad was the same as always.
Overall, the food is not Michelin star level – obviously – but it definitely became better since the last time I have been here. The atmosphere is nice, cozy, friendly and the host family Denk is friendly and helpful. Now knowing the price, I must also say that this is absolutely fair. For EUR 19.00 three courses and they are all eatable and sometimes even very tasty, I must say: fine thing!
