19. November 2012: Restaurant Limes

| November 23, 2012 | 0 Comments

The pumpkin soup (creamy soup with roasted hokkaido pumpkin; EUR 4.20) as a starter was a good choice. The soup was good, aromatic, and you actually had a sound start into the meal.

The main course were “Gnocchi fatti in casa” with pesto, mozzarella and nuts (EUR 7.80). The Gnocchi were fresh, had an intense taste and the combination of pesto, mozzarella and nuts made them quite a good meal. Only if you look at the price it is definitely not the cheapest place to have lunch although the starter and main course are okay.

What is pretty outrageous is something else – one thing is that you pay for house-made focciacia bread EUR 1.90 per portion. Which is already quite pushing it but still acceptable. What is definitely not acceptable though is the fact that if you want olive oil with the bread you actually have to pay EUR 0.90 for the olive oil. I mean, EUR 0.90 is not much but for olive oil? Really? Other than that, prices are definitely not low but acceptable. A bottle of water (0,75L) accounts for EUR 5.90.

The place itself is very stylish and appealing. At least the big main room – the side room is only limitedly appealing as it is pretty dark. The waiter was friendly at first but somehow he changed his opinion and started being unfriendly or at least not being helpful anymore. A pity.

Overall, the Restaurant Limes offers good food – not absolutely outstanding but definitely good – in a nice atmosphere. The service is probably well if you belong to the upper 10’000 in Vienna (we saw the integration minister who was there for lunch). The prices are – as stated above – okay but definitely in the higher ranks.
