21. November 2012: Restaurant Maredo

| November 26, 2012 | 0 Comments

I decided to give the Restaurant Maredo a try again – in a different country this time. Last time when I tried Maredo in Germany I was not really satisfied or persuaded – and I must admit, I am still not. Everyone should get a second chance – well, you got it, and you failed!

I went for the filet steak (the most tender part of the beef, 250 gr) for EUR 25.00 (that is what I paid according to the bill but on the menu, it actually costs EUR 25.30 – fair enough – weird though). The “filet” steak looked – well, like a piece of meat but not necessarily like filet to me. Anyway, I was hungry and gave it a try – and had to spit out my first bite again – nerves, nerves, nerves! And yes, this was getting on my nerves! The rest of the steak was free of nerves – so a bad start maybe but the meat was still pretty poor in taste – especially compared to what I am used to with regards to meat. If it was not for the pepper cream sauce (EUR 2.50) I ordered on top to it, I would have returned it but it was “nicely” peppery which made it eatable.

If you only ordered a steak, you had the chance to help yourself for an additional EUR 3.50 at the salat bar and fill your plate once with salad – which I did. The selection of salads on the other hand was quite nice, the ingredients looked mainly fresh (only the tomatoes had quite some ditches and were not too appealing). The sauces are rather heavy and thick but besides that, the salad bar was the highlight of the evening. I mean, there is nothing wrong if the highlight of the evening is the salad bar – but not if you are goddamn going to a steakhouse! Then the goddamn steak should be the highlight!!!

The place itself is also not appealing – damn simple, very much like some cheap American drive through restaurant. Yeahi! (Attention: Sarcasm!). The waiter was – well – he did his job. He was there, took the orders, brought the plates. Yeah, okay, did what you had to do. No dedication, no passion (which I frankly understand if you have to work at a place like this where your “stardish” sucks …).

Well, Maredo, you tried! And you failed! Miserably! Thanks … and never again!
