23. February 2010: Restaurant Osteria dei Poeti

The Osteria dei Poeti is located in the Corso Garibaldi close to the “zona Brera” which is reachable by public transportation by either tram 3 or the green metro line (metro stop Lanza).

You probably won’t see the restaurant right away as the entrance is quite small and you have to look out for it. Once, you see the place, it’s actually even tricky to get in as the two doors preventing you from getting in are opening on opposite sides.

Once you’re in, it looks like a cozy Italian kitchen (kind of at least) and this makes it somehow appealing, but still it’s not really looking fashionable or fancy. Just a nice place where an Italian nonna cooks (it looks like).

There is basically a new menu every day which is hand-written and lies on the table. We could choose from two different “primi piatti” and five different “secondi piatti” as well as from three “dolci”. The orders for the drinks are taken immediately but it takes quite a while until the drinks are brought to your table. Once you’ve ordered your dishes, it actually doesn’t take long until you’re provided with the first dish (it really came astonishingly quick).

As a first plate I had “Orecchiette Ragu e Piselli” which was quite a big portion and tasted good. For a person with “normal appetite” a “primo piatto” is probably already enough (and they cost only 4 EUR).

As a “secondo piatto” I enjoyed a “Pollo al tegamaccio con polenta” which was basically roasted chicken with polenta and this one really tasted good (costing 7 EUR).

Finally, as a desert I ate a “Torta cioccolato con pere” which was really tasty (EUR 3.50).

Looking at the price paid for 3 courses including a caffe doppio and a sparkling water (17.50 EUR) and facing the fact that the food was quite good (besides maybe the first course which was just okay), the price-performance ratio is awesome!

All in all, definitely the place to go around zona Brera for a good, quick and tasty lunch for a totally reasonable price!
