6. December 2012: Restaurant Freiwild

| December 12, 2012 | 0 Comments

The “deer carpaccio with black walnuts and raspberries” (EUR 9.80) was a great start into the evening. The deer carpaccio was tender and rich in taste, the crunchiness of the black walnuts and their distinct taste complemented the dish. The raspberries looked nice but did not add any value to the dish in my opinion.

And it got even better – the main course was “saddle of venison with a sweet chestnut mousseline, Brussels sprouts, and port shallots” (EUR 26.10). The meat was perfectly prepared, still slightly red in the middle, warm, absolutely mouth-watering! If you like game then the Restaurant Freiwild (unprotected game) is definitely the right place to go!

The prices are fair for what you get. The same applies for the drinks: double espresso EUR 3.20; mineral water EUR 2.30; and a glass (1/8L) of Zweigelt EUR 2.90. The waitress and the waiter were both friendly and helpful.

Somehow the place is atmospheric from its interior design – but then again the audience is a bit … well, how to put it … boring! I mean, it is absolutely fine if you are a weird bunch going somewhere to eat but if at most tables you kind of have a weird bunch it becomes ackward. Anyway, the place itself is nice, it is simple and has quite appealing and cool paintings hanging from the wall.

The only thing which was a bit suboptimal was the waiting time – overall we spent about 3 hours there and although we had quite some time in the end where nothing was eaten anymore it took them quite long to actually serve the courses. In any case, I can absolutely recommend the Restaurant Freiwild, especially if you book your table via Delinski.at (and get 30% off the whole bill).
