26. February 2010: Restaurant Caffè dell’Opera
The Caffé dell’Opera is located in walking distance from the metro station Montenapoleone (yellow metro line) which is also close to Armani Nobu and several other – so far recommended but unfortunately not tried out yet – restaurants like Don Lisander, Don Juan, etc.
The place looks quite touristic from the outside and isn’t really appealing too much but still, we decided to enter it as we were practically starving. The inside looks a bit better but especially the upstairs dining area is really not appealling (as compared to the downstairs coffee area which looks definitely nicer).
The waiter wasn’t really friendly, acting like he’s pissed off of actually working and he was serving us with the according behaviour. It can’t be said that he was unfriendly but he wasn’t really helpful, assisting and nice.
I went for a salad which was quite okay as at least it had different kinds of ingredients and seemed fresh. What was very disappointing though was the oil and vinegar provided (like the cheap stuff you get in each normal restaurant around the globe but what you just wouldn’t expect in an Italian restaurant).
The others ordered some pasta dishes and they were clearly lacking in taste as the tomato sauce wasn’t tasting like tomato really and the pasta was warmed again and not freshly cooked.
The prices would be, in general, acceptable but looking at the quality of the food provided, the service given and the whole experience itself, they’re way too high.
All in all, if you’re suffering from starvation and won’t make it more than 5 steps, go there (if you’re close), otherwise, don’t!
