27. February 2010: Restaurant La Bodeguita del Medio

The restaurant “La Bodeguita del Medio” is located between the Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi and the Piazza 24 Maggio (Navigli area), best reachable by tram 9, 29/30 or 15.

The place is quite small – so upfront: reserve a table before you go there if you’re more than two or three people. From the outside it doesn’t look too appealing as neon signs somehow always give me the impression of low quality.

But, it must be said, that the inside looks much nicer. Although we couldn’t get a table upstairs which was definitely looking nice and cozy, even the room downstairs has quite something appealing when it comes to the interior design. Especially all the cigar boxes hanging at the ceiling provide the place with a feeling of originality.

The service is nice, friendly and quick. The only little shortcoming was that two girls in our group ordered drinks without sugar (don’t ask me which drinks they were) but actually they didn’t get them without the sugar although the waitress assured them that it was possible to get them without sugar.

The aperitivo buffet is really tasty but it is a bit small which makes it somehow disappointing to a certain degree. Especially as officially it’s stated that the aperitivo lasts from 6 pm to 9 pm and at 8:30 pm the empty plates of the buffet haven’t been replaced anymore. Although the buffet is quite small and it isn’t replaced till the end of the officially announced time, it must be said, that the food provided is quite tasty.

The drinks are nice as well (appropriately strong) and quite cheap (6 EUR for a drink incl. aperitivo). Therefore, the price performance ratio is quite decent.

All in all, the La Bodeguita del Medio is a nice place to go which provides you with good, cheap drinks, tasty food but you should reserve a table because first of all, you’ll get the possibility of sitting upstairs and secondly, the sooner you go, the higher the chance is that you actually get enough food from the buffet. What I personally consider really nice about the place though is the atmosphere as it has definitely something original!
