24. December 2012: FRA – JFK LH400 Inflight Menu

The “smoked wels catfish presented with salad of root vegetables and chanterelle mushrooms” was a good start. The fish was tasty, the vegetables okay, and the chanterelles actually quite good.

The main course was a “classical roast goose with red cabbage and fried potato dumplings”. While the roast was okay, the red cabbage was outstandingly delicious (I never thought that I would make such a statement about airplane food) but the fried potato dumplings were somehow too gummy.

The desert – a selection of “sbrinz cheese rolls, bavaria blue, camembert, dried fruit chutney and walnuts” plus “white mousse au chocolate with pineapple chutney” – was great again. The selection of cheeses was good, the dried fruit chutney was definitely great and the white mousse au chocolate was rich too.

A few hours later, shortly before landing, “thin slices of air-dried “Almochsen Filet” Austrian Pasture Beef on seasonal leaf salad with fried wild mushrooms accompanied by pumpkin seed oil” were served. In addition to that a “chocolate guglhupf, ring-shaped cake with winter condiments ‘Johanna Maier'” came with the meal. The salad was okay, the goulash was tasty, and the guglhupf was definitely yummy.

The atmosphere is, well, limited but okay. The business class is not too bad after all and at least you have comfortable chairs. But overall, it is not really the place where you want to spend time to eat. In any case, the service is friendly and quick. Let us not talk about the price as the price you pay for a business class flight is definitely not worth the food served. Still, given the fact that you are up there somewhere in the air, the food served is quite okay. The selection of drinks is definitely great though, water, red wine, and last but not least “Etter Pflümli Likör”.
