16. January 2013: Restaurant Arvenstube @Hotel Churfirsten
I was expecting a really thin and pre-cooked tomato cream soup (CHF 9.00) but I must say that I was positively surprised – the soup still had fresh tomato in it as well as roasted pine nuts which provided it with a nice little surprising effect.
The main course was a bit disappointing though – I mean, the “Veal Cordon Bleu ‘Hinterrugg’ filled with cheese and ham, accompanied by vegetables and French Fries” (CHF 39.80) was good, no question, but it was not outstanding.
The place itself is quite okay – the Arvenstube is nicely furnished with a lot of wooden elements but the floor is looking like a gym – so, not so appealing. The waitress, Marina, did a good job. She was friendly and helpful and basically fulfilled every request we had. The prices are also fair – for the food as well as for the drinks (e.g. Rivella red, 5 DL, CHF 5.40)
Overall, the Restaurant Arvenstube @Hotel Churfirsten is quite okay if you are looking for traditional Swiss kitchen, it is quite Swiss overall. Frankly though, it is nothing mind-blowing.
