20. January 2013: Restaurant Sonnenberg

| January 26, 2013 | 0 Comments

I have read about the “Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” the first time about half a year ago. And finally, I was able to attend an event. The “Déjeuner Amical” took place in the Restaurant Sonnenberg led by Jacky Donatz and it started with a really tasty firework of amuse bouches (doughnut with Foie Gras, ham and melons, soup hen soup with various vegetables, matjes with potatoes and apple brunoise, profiterole with salmon, tuna bruschetta, avocado sandwich).

The “Homard de l’Atlantique Thermidor, Coquilles St. Jacques, Taglierini” was mouth-watering. The lobster was rich and very aromatic refined with black truffles, the pasta was perfectly cooked too. A very intense and rich dish to start.

The “Cœur de filet de bœuf US, Sauce Bérnaise, Pommes Savoyarde and Méli-Mélo des Légumes” was the perfect continuation. The beef was perfectly tender, aromatic, and spiced up ideally. The Sauce Bérnaise was a liquid dream come true.

For desert “Soufflé au chocolat Bolivia 64%, sorbet mangue” was served. The soufflé au chocalat was perfect – still fluffy, but nicely liquid on the inside! And they managed to provide 50 of those within 5 minutes time difference – that is what I call perfectly orchestrated cuisine!

To properly end the meal a nice selection of different cheeses was served. And here was the only small flaw in the service – while it was perfectly orchestrated otherwise we were not explained which cheese we were able to find on our plates. A pity – still, the selection was nice to round up a great meal.

Last but not least, before coffee “Pralinés glacés and Prussiens” were served. The chocolates were definitely nice. As already mentioned, the service was perfectly orchestrated – the glasses were refilled, all persons at the table got their food at the same time, and last but not least, the service was very friendly!

What is also pretty amazing is the view you got from the Restaurant Sonnenberg – unfortunately, the sun only started shining when we were about to leave. The interior is nice, comfortable but not outstanding in its design but the view is definitely amazing!

Of course, the appropriate wines were served with the menu – first a “Chablis 1er cru, Simonnet-Febre, 2010” (CHF 59.00) which was smooth and fit perfectly to the first course. The “Priorat, Dara Reserva, 2007” (CHF 58.00) was a revelation and was perfect to be enjoyed even after the actual menu was finalized.

To sum it up, I can absolutely recommend eating at the Restaurant Sonnenberg – great food, marvelous view, outstanding service and for what you get, the price is also very appropriate (menu for young participants CHF 75.00). Besides that, if you are a food lover, you should definitely consider attending an event of the “Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” (they have chapters in basically every country and major city) – the perfect place for foodies!
