20. January 2013: Restaurant Adler

| January 27, 2013 | 0 Comments

Honestly, I was not expecting such good food when we had booked the Restaurant Adler in Fläsch. As a starter to begin the dining rape oil and butter was served. Well, one can definitely substitude olive oil with rape oil but is not my preference!

After we decided to have the four course menu (CHF 89.00) they served us a vitamin shot of orange and carrots which was astonishingly tasty and refreshing.

The first course was absolutely breath taking, the “Sashimi with saka tuna, nori, black Hawaiian salt, celery stalks, mango, cashew nuts, wasabi” (CHF 22.00 if taken single) was an amazing combination. The tuna sashimi was fresh and tasty, the combination with the nori leave and the black Hawaiian salt was mouth-watering!

As a next course a “quail egg from the Engadin with French caviar on winter leek” …

… with “potato foam cream” (CHF 15.00 if taken single). The combination of the quail egg with French caviar was delicious. The combination of the potato foam soup with the leek as well. Only the soup itself was somehow missing intensity – it did not taste that much like potato as you would expect.

For a main course a “veal filet from the Prättigau was served with bali pepper, sweetheart cabbage, pumpkin, fluffy curd gnocchi and bread crumbs” (CHF 52.00 if taken single). The veal was absolutely tender and juicy, the combination with the pepper and the sweetheart cabbage was sound and tasty. The pumpkin cream did not taste like much and the fluffy cord gnocchi were good.

Before the actual desert, we were served some small sweets as a greeting from the kitchen: mascarpone jar with lemon, small chocolate ships and raspberry slices. The mascarpone was delicious, the chocolate ships chocolatey, and the raspberry slices truly yummy!

As a last course a “selection of raw milk cheeses with fruit bread, fig mustard” (CHF 15.00 if taken single) was served – “black cheese from Uri, mountain spruce, jersey blue and peanuts with honey from Fläsch”. The cheese selection was a great – a perfect round up of the evening.

The dishes are great and the price is very fair. Also for beverages the prices are more than fair (double espresso CHF 6.40, Grappa from Berta CHF 11.00, wine CHF 39.35). The service is very friendly and rather quick. Also, any special requests with regards to the speed of the courses to be served or the splitting of the bill were no problem at all. The place is nice too, nicely furnished, entirely held in wood with white tablecloth – lovely.

Overall, the Restaurant Adler is definitely a place to go to if you are around this area – great food, nice atmosphere, fair prices, and good service!
