22. January 2013: Restaurant Schloss Brandis

| January 29, 2013 | 0 Comments

I have heard a lot about the Restaurant Schloss Brandis before actually dining there so I figured once I am close to it, I should give it a try. It started with a nice selection of different butters (curry, shallots, regular) and bread. While the curry butter was intense, the shallot butter was rather smooth but very rich.

My main course was the dish the Schloss Brandis is famous for – “Chateaubriand ‘Schloss Brandis’ with Sauce Béarnaise (served in two courses)” (CHF 58.00 per person, min 2 person). It is showed to you before they prepare your plates and it definitely looked great.

But it did not only look great, it was also tasting great. The vegetables were well prepared and tasteful, the meat was prepared to our request and …

… last but not least the Sauce Béarnaise was also very rich but a bit too light and foamy for my personal taste. Still great in taste though!

Prices are fair for what you get (e.g. water 0,5l CHF 6.80) – especially if you look at the Chateaubriand although the actual amount of meat you get for CHF 58.00 is not too much but with the sidedishes and the vegetables it is absolutely enough.

The Restaurant Schloss Brandis is not only good for its dishes – as it actually seems to be an old castle (Schloss is German for castle), it has a very nice atmosphere. The large room is probably some kind of former knight’s area and is very traditionally designed with the modern nice ambiente of a modern “cuisine”.

The entrance is as welcoming as the service – the waitresses are very dedicated and passionate about their service. Only in the beginning we had to wait quite a bit until we were first served (but at exactly the same time there was a table of approximately 25 people placing their orders delaying our service). Overall, service is definitely very fine.

All in all, I can recommend the Chateaubriand at the Restaurant Schloss Brandis. The food is good, fair in price, the service is friendly and good as well and last but not least the whole restaurant is naturally located in a very nice atmosphere – a former castle.
