6. February 2013: Restaurant Kubu am Opernplatz
A bit uncommon as an appetizer for lunch but the combination of bread and dried ham was definitely a good start. The ham was tasty and the bread rich.
As a starter I had a “beetroot soup with horseradish, apple and smoked salmon” (EUR 6.00). The soup had an intense beetroot taste and was quite delicious. The sweetness of the apples in combination with the salmon made it a great starter.
As a main course I had a “tuna steak in teriyaki sauce, vegetables from the wok and sushi rice” (EUR 19.00). The tuna was tasty, the vegetables still slightly crunchy and yummy. A fine dish but not as good as the starter.
The place itself is pretty nice – modernly designed with a nice crowd. The service is friendly and rather quick and prices are still fair although a bit above average for Germany, I dare saying. While the soup is price-wise okay, the main course is already quite heavy for Germany. A green tea accounts for EUR 3.70.
Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Kubu am Opernplatz – nice food, nice place, fair service, fair prices after all.
