10. February 2013: Restaurant Alpenrose
A well-hidden gem in Zurich! Real Swiss food – newly interpreted, breath-takingly tasty! I would never have found the place myself – it was recommended to me by a friend I met at the “Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” and I am very glad, she recommended it to me!
The “sauteed pumpkin ravioli by Patrizia Fontana with bio orange butter and bio oranges” (CHF 15.50) was an amazing start to dinner. The ravioli were rich and the oranges and the orange butter gave it this special hint of taste which made the dish truly outstanding.
The “Entrecote from Puschlav with homemade herb butter, bacon from Muotha valley, bio vegetables and bio potatoes” (CHF 41.00) was unfortunately not exactly at the same level as the starter.
The meat was fine but it was too neverd for my taste …
… the potatoes were too crunchy …
… but the vegetables were absolutely tasty. The dish was fine, but not above average – and in comparison to the starter a bit of a disappointment. What was great though was the service – the waitress (which seemed to be the owner too) was very friendly and attentive. The place itself is lovely too, you did not feel like being in a restaurant in Zurich but rather somewhere up in the alpes in a log cabin. Last but not least, the prices are very fair for the dishes as well as for the beverages (Valser 0,5L – CHF 5.50; double espresso – CHF 5.20).
