2. March 2013: Secret Brunch @Embassy Mayfair

| March 15, 2013 | 0 Comments

Phantasmagorial! If you are looking for having a good time while in London, I can definitely recommend you the concept of “Secret Brunch”. You sign up and you are told only 24 hours in advance where the event will take place and what the “motto” of the event will be. The motto was “Ancient Rome – all white” – a nice motto indeed. When we arrived, the place, Embassy Mayfair, was nicely decorated …

… and soon started it started to get real crowded. If you were among the lucky few who came early you even got a table and the opportunity to enjoy lunch.

The “chicken liver parfait with toscana bread” (GBP 10.00) was heavy and rich but also mouth-watering. The portion was astonishingly large though – especially given the fact that there were quite a few skinny women at the table who did not look like they were going to eat that much. In any case, it was luscious!

The main course – “Onglet steak, shallots confit, polenta with Bordelaise sauce” (GBP 10.00) was a bit of a disappointment. While the shallots confit and the polenta with the Bordelaise sauce were breath-taking, the quality of the meat left a lot to be desired. It was somehow chewy, full of nerves, definitely not my favourite.

But they showed pretty impressively that they know what they are doing – the desert “nougat glacier” (GBP 5.00) was absolutely mind-blowing! So damn tasty and yummy – and I usually do not even like desert that much! Wow!

What was part of the party was a complementary vodka bar for the first two hours – and hey, it was worth it! After that, a vodka lemon accounted for GBP 10.67.

Now, so much about the food, but the whole thing is about much more. The tables were removed as soon as everyone was done eating, the chairs too and the place turned into a party location. The DJ was playing quite good music and the host provided us with one or two quite good shows …

I can absolutely and fully recommend such an event – the place was great, the crowd was real good and last but not least, the food was quite outstanding (besides the quality of the meat) – plus the prices were absolutely fair! Love to come again!
