The perfect place for a warming tea: Casa De Chá Poejo (6. January 2019)
When you visit the Azores, you should definitely pay a visit to the Sete Cidades (which means seven cities) and is basically two lakes adjacent to each other – a great are for hiking. You can walk around the smaller lake in about 60 to 90 minutes – but bring good shoes as the hike is a bit a tricky one. If you manage to not get caught by the rain – I wasn’t that lucky – you might not need to warm up after. But if you are, then the Casa de Chá Poejo is the perfect place for a little rest and warming yourself up in a cozy atmosphere with a lovely tea and a good snack. The “pineapple with black pudding” (EUR 5.00) was served completely different to the way I had it the night before – the black pudding was not one big sausage but many tiny ones and again they went well with the sweetness of the pineapple!
There is a nice selection of local teas like the “Chá Regional ‘Gorreana’ Orange Pekoe” which costs EUR 3.50 for four servings or the “Chá Local Poejo” which costs EUR 2.50 for two servings. Both good in flavor but both nothing extraordinary in terms of taste experience!
The place itself is simple yet lovely and you can smell the burned wood in the air of the stove the place is firing up.
The waitress is friendly and helpful but when it comes to English, there are certain language barriers and you sometimes have to explain a bit what you want. However, she tries her very best to make sure you have a pleasant stay – which I did. All in all, I liked the Casa de Chá Poejo quite a lot as it is an honest, simple place where you get food and a good warm tea for a decent price in a friendly atmosphere.
