20. March 2013: Restaurant Kubu am Opernplatz

| March 29, 2013 | 0 Comments

I am not so sure about the overall rating of the Restaurant Kubu am Opernplatz, the last time I was there, the food was worse but the service was better. This time, the food was better, the service was worse. We placed our order for water after only five minutes – but then it took her more than 15 minutes to bring it to our table and to take the order for the food. Another 10 minutes and the bread and ham was served.

I had the “Asparagus Cream Soup” (approx. EUR 6.00) which was quite good as it was thick, creamy and had actually junks of asparagus in it which made it definitely better than regular watery soup.

The main course, “Surf and Turf – beef filet and a jumbo prawn with beans, sweet potato French fries, and saffron mayonnaise” (EUR 25.00), was great. The beef filet was quite a piece and the meat was astonishingly tender and soft, somehow buttery. Only the taste was kind of missing – I mean, the meat was of good quality, no question about that but somehow it lacked “own taste”. The meat of the jumbo prawn was yummy! The sweet potato French had a really astonishing flavour – sweet and salty. The saffron mayo on the other hand was rather mainstream and boring.

The place is still nicely furnished, somehow a bit impersonal but I guess for all the bankers and consultants that is pretty appropriate. The service is friendly but dead-slow! I mean, if you are up for quick lunch: wrong place to go! Other than that, I think, overall, the place is fine: good food, nice atmosphere, fair prices, but – as I said -, service this time sucked!
