4. August 2013: Restaurant Meierei im Stadtpark
About 8 months ago, I was at the Restaurant Steirereck im Stadtpark and it was a great experience. The Restaurant Meierei im Stadtpark is part of the Steirereck and I can already say that it was great too! I started with “crayfish moussé and potato crisps” …
… “with a cold cucumber soup” (EUR 5.90). The soup was absolutely refreshing and had a great intense taste of cucumbers.
The “Viennese veal Schnitzel prepared in butter oil” (EUR 19.90) was recommended to my by a fellow food blogger, Robert, from Kuechenreise.com and I must say that it was definitely greaet. The meat is very tasty and the breading is loose but extremely tasty. Although the Restaurant Figlmüller has supposedly the best Viennese Schnitzel in town but I must say the one in the Restaurant Meierei im Stadtpark is definitely better!
Even the “potatoe salad” which comes as a sidedish is absolutely rich – refined with thinly cut onions! Delicious!
For dessert, I went for something cold, so I had the “lemon balm snow with marinaded strawberries” (EUR 8.90) and compared to the rest I must say this was a bit of a downer. I mean, it was still good but the snow layer (which was basically ice) was sometimes too thick so the flavour of the lemon balm was too docile to actually be able to really taste it. But the parts which were not so thick and had an intense flavour were great in combination with the marinaded strawberries. Unfortunately, there were not too many “thin layers”.
The cover charge of EUR 2.00 is legitimate as the bread is good – the selection of butter is though smaller than in the Restaurant Steiereck (which is a pity as the butter there was great). The waitress was very friendly, jocular and did overall a great job – only in the beginning when it came to distribute the menu, there was a slight mistake of handing it first to me and not to the women at the table.
What one has to say though is that the prices are absolutely fair for what you get here! So, when it comes to the dishes, I must say: great food for very fair prices with good service. The same also applies to the beverages (Gutmann Hefeweizen, 0,5L, EUR 5.50; Vöslauer, 0,75L, EUR 5.00; double espresso, EUR 3.90).
And not only that, the place itself is very lovely too as it is located in the middle of the Stadtpark and you have a nice view to a stylish channel in the park.
Personally, I am glad that Robert recommended me this place for Viennese Schnitzel – I walked by a couple of times but somehow never decided to go in (as I thought it is similar to the Restaurant Steirereck where you only go for special occasions) – it is definitely great and I will sure come by again!

Schön, dass es gemundet hat :-) Und scheint ja generell eine kulinarisch umfassende Wien-Reise gewesen zu sein, schön darüber zu lesen!
