26. June 2010: Ristorante Henry’s Café
The Henry’s Café is a pub located close to the Piazza 24 Maggio right across the Ristorante Noi Due. It is easily reachable with tram 9 or 29/30 (stop “Col di Lana Cosseria” or stop “24 Maggio”).
The pub looks okay from the outside and somewhat cozy from the inside – whereas not being something really special it is a nice place to just sit down and sip a couple of beers in the afternoon. Especially, as for Milan, the prices are really low: half a liter of beer only 3.5 EUR before 5pm.
The waitresses are in general very friendly and helpful and always joking. Although it doesn’t apply to all of them, it applies to most of them. The service is quick and mostly reliable but just watch that you get enough money back when you pay (I’m not saying they did it on purpose, mistakes happen but it’d be annoying if you just get 50 cents instead of 10.50 EUR back).
After 5pm the prices increase as they offer an aperitivo buffet, so half a liter of beer starts costing 5 EUR and this goes on until the pub closes.
The buffet is quite rich in different kind of toasts and offers also some nice pasta but it has one little shortcomming: it’s all cold. Even the pasta – although tasty – is cold.
What improved the impression though were the eggs with the Swiss flag in them ;-)
All in all, the Henry’s Café is a great place to just sit down and have a couple of beers and especially if you want to stay longer there (as I did, namely 6 hours in a row) it’s perfect as the buffet is served after 5 pm and the food is quite good.
