When the spice is missing – good but rather straight-forward: Restaurant Neumarkt (12. January 2023)
It is about 7.5 years ago since I’ve last been to Neumarkt and I didn’t really have a memory of the place, so, it felt like going to a new place. As a starter, I went for the “potato leek soup (with crème fraîche and chive oil)” (CHF 14.00). The portion wasn’t massive, but it was good. Nothing extraordinary, but definitely a good and sound dish.
As a main course, I went for the “confit pork belly in herbs with cabbage, caramelized shallots, and mustard jus” (CHF 31.50). I had expected a few small pieces of pork belly, but it turned out that it was actually quite a decent and nice portion of pork belly – and it was a good one. The pork belly was great in terms of flavour profile, and it was great in terms of texture, so definitely an enjoyable dish. Again, nothing outstanding, but definitely quite lovely!
The place itself reminded me a bit of a few other places like the Bauernschänke in Zurich and I have somehow the feeling they are affiliated. Other than that, the waitress was friendly and swift and took good care of the table. All in all, the experience at Neumarkt was a good and positive one, but there wasn’t really anything which would create a lasting memory.
