Where they take your pre-payment and don’t deduct it plus let you 45 minutes wait for your table: Restaurant Marie (14. June 2023)

| August 2, 2023 | 0 Comments

Leaving aside the complete disaster of having to wait for more than 45 minutes for our pre-booked and partially pre-paid table, which we spent waiting at Freddy’s Bar next door and starting from the moment when we would finally be seated, I must say, the experience was quite a nice one. The “fougasse (sourdough, brown butter, chive oil)” (EUR 5.50) was perfect to put a good basis into the stomach after all the drinks since the bread was not only tasty, but it was also sufficiently prepared in butter, so you would actually feel like you have a proper base in your belly for anything to come.

The “oursin (sea urchin, mussel, mushroom)” (EUR 7.50) did not only look nice, but it was also super tasty. I mean, the filling wasn’t like the super original sea urchin taste, but it was mild, smooth, and still had that sea urchin element to it.

The “saucisson (Joselito Iberico)” (EUR 9.00) on the other hand was a complete fail. I mean, sure, there were good sausage slices, which were enjoyable, but they were also just sausage slices, and not too many of them. So, charging EUR 9.00 for 12 tiny slices of sausage is just a no-go.

The “tartare de boeuf (steak tartare, sourdough, mizuna)” (EUR 18.00) was actually nice and great in taste. That being said, though, I was a bit disappointed in the sourdough element of it. I was expecting bread on the side, while you would actually only get dried sourdough bread crumbs into the tartare. Still, a great bite, and the sourdough, in thus far added to the dish since it provided it with that nice and typical crunch.

The “loup de mer (seabass, sourdough, beurre rouge, bone marrow, spinach)” (EUR 31.00) was a bit small as a main course, but it was actually good in terms of flavour and texture profile.

The “fries (mayonnaise, chives)” (EUR 6.00) were decent – while the ones on top were nice and long, there were way too many of those which were just tiny fries pieces, which wasn’t all too nice.

The “little gem au BBQ (little gem lettuce, Caesar style, Parmesan, chives, anchovy)” (EUR 7.50) sounded so promising, when I had ordered it. However, I must admit, it was not entirely to my liking. The little gem lettuce was just too much of the core and not enough of the leaves, so you would finally end up chewing quite a bit on this, which was not all too enjoyable.

So, yeah, I’m not entirely sure why the Marie is in the Bib Gourmand. I mean, sure, the food isn’t too bad, but frankly, a waiting time for a pre-booked and partially pre-paid table of 45 minutes is just an absolute no-go. The food afterwards was overall good. Sure, also not everything super amazing, but definitely a bit above the average. So, yeah, fair place, but not at the level it would like to be.

What I also found out is that I had been overcharged by 50.00 EUR because you have to do a down-payment of EUR 25.00 per person, and ultimately, they didn’t deduct the pre-payment. So, let’s see how they will react to this.
