30. July 2010: Restaurant Uno e Più

| July 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Uno e Più is located in Kriens right behind the Schappecenter (a shopping center) and maybe not that easy to see at first sight. It is reachable with the Postauto from Lucerne mainstation. The restaurant looks somewhat unpretentious from the outside, but once you’ve entered the place, the impression changes.

The interior is nicely designed. The restaurant is two-fold and has two dining rooms. One looking a bit more causal whereas the other one seems to be the one which is a bit more upscale.

The Uno e Più belongs to the Remimag Gastronomie chain which also runs other restaurants like the Restaurant Opus in Lucerne (21. July, 4. May, 6. April). My personal experience so far is quite positive about – the expectations were accordingly high.

The Remimag restaurants offer a “Lunch Menu” which includes a soup, salad from the buffet and a main dish for quite reasonable prices.

I’ve chosen the “Vitello Tonato” and got a Bouillon as a starter which was quite okay but it didn’t taste to intense and I dare saying it wasn’t freshly made (meaning, made by pre-made bouillon).

The big plus is the buffet you can choose your salad from. They not only offer a great variety of “salads” but also other little things like dried tomatoes, different cheeses, shrimp cocktail, etc.

The selection is amazing and the dishes are also really good. The only little shortcomming was the French dressing (salad sauce). It didn’t taste like too much – no real flavour came across.

As I main dish, I’ve had my Vitello Tonato then which was good – the meat contained some nerves which made the whole experience not perfectly tender but all in all, it tasted good.

What was a bit disappointing was the service though. Although we’ve been asked what we wanted to drink in the beginning, we didn’t get it right away. As a second waitress appeared and asked us again, we got what we’ve ordered but in the end, it wasn’t the whole thing.

Also, when the plates were finished, it took them quite long to actually take them off the table. Usually, once all guests are done with one course, the table should be emptied and only then the new dishes should be served. There’s definitely room for improvement!

Finally, when it came to paying the bill (although our billing was a bit complicated) it took them over 20 minutes to get it fixed – way too long. What must be said though is that they kind of made up for it in friendliness. Furthermore, one of the waitresses was an aid only – but still, it should not happen.

All in all, the Restaurant Uno e Più is a great place to have lunch but one should plan some time for it in order to not be late for upcoming meetings or the like. Furthermore, if the service would be improved, it’s definitely recommendable without any reservations.
