7. August 2010: The Wolseley

| August 9, 2010 | 1 Comments

The Wolseley is located in the Piccadilly street right next to the Ritz Hotel. It is easily reachable by tube from the station “Green Park” (Jubilee Line, Piccadilly Line or Victoria Line) or “Piccadilly Circus” (Piccadilly Line and Bakerloo Line). The Galvin at Windows Bar and the Restaurant New Mayflower are in walking distance.

The building in which The Wolseley is located is quite impressive and also the entry looks already nice with the doorman standing there and checking on the guests.

Once you’re inside, the picture is even more impressive when you enter the building. In the middle, there is a huge dining room which is quite impressive.

On the side, there are two smaller rooms which offer a bit more privacy and are also nicely designed but not as impressive as the dining hall.

The waiter is friendly and at disposition if you need him. We were a bit stressed by him as he kept asking several times if we are ready to order. Once he has taken the order it didn’t take long until we got our beverages. The Cappuccino and the milk coffee were nicely prepared having a heart on top.

I’ve went for “The English” as breakfast which is basically eggs, sausage, black pudding (for the German reader, that’s Blutwurst and not any kind of sweet pudding), bacon, mushroom and tomato with beans.

The food was okay for what you can expect from a hearty English breakfast. But all in all, it must be said, there is better things to eat than English food.

The prices are decent (£13.95 for The English) and the experience at the Wolseley is great but mainly because of the place/atmosphere and the company and not so much because of the food. In any case, it’s highly recommended to reserve a table in advance as you might have difficulties finding a spot otherwise.

Indeed a lovely place to start off your day. And it’s just a five minutes strawl away from Buckingham Palace. By the way, for small eaters I recommend the bagle with smoked salmon and fresh cheese.
