20. August 2010: Restaurant Coco’s Grill

| August 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Coco’s Grill is located right next to Paradeplatz and is therefore easily reachable by tram from the main station or other locations. Once at Paradeplatz, it’s a 30-second walk until you’re at the restaurant. In its vicinity are places like the Bar La Stanza, the Restaurant Mövenpick Palavrion, or the Bar @Carlton Hotel.

Coco’s Grill is somehow hidden in a little side street and basically fills the patio with its restaurant furniture. The place looks not so nice from far, but is quite nice from close as the wooden furniture gives it somehow a really nice atmosphere.

It is highly recommendable to reserve for lunch if you want to sit outside as the places are limited and when it’s sunny it’s difficult to find something during peak hours (inside, there is more than enough space though in summer).

Coco’s Grill offers set menus consisting of a main course and either soup or salad which cost between CHF 34.50 and CHF 37.50. I’ve had a salad as a starter which was quite bland. The bread they brought along with the salad was okay but as it seems to be burned in a pan, some pieces were way to black.

As a main dish I’ve had the veal steak which was not that bad in taste. Also the vegetables which came with the meat were okay. The sauce was really thin and the amount on the plate didn’t really provide you enough food to be saturated.

The waitresses were really friendly in serving us and mostly they were there when you needed them. One mistake has happened though at the end, although it wasn’t intentionally and mistakes can happen, a mistake like that just can’t happen. As I’ve paid with credit card, I back checked the amount debited with the bill, and the waitres billed me CHF 40.00 too much. Although that was because of a typo, it just can’t happen as probably most guests don’t even back check.

All in all, the Restaurant Coco’s Grill is a nice place to have lunch, but it’s more for the atmosphere than for anything else. The food is good in general, but nothing extraordinary and looking at the price you pay, I’d definitely say it’s overpriced. Furthermore, the service is good – in general – but the “wrong billing” just can’t happen. In any case, if you want to go there in summer, make sure to reserve a table outside before going.
