12. November 2010: Rheinfelder Bierhalle
The Rheinfelder Bierhalle is located really close to Central and the Zurich main station at the beginning of Niederdorf. It’s pretty easily reachable on foot from the main station. There are quite a few restaurants in the Niederdorf area like the Restaurant Barfüsser, the Oliver Twist Pub, the Restaurant Santa Lucia Niederdorf, Edi’s Weinstube, the Andorra Bar, La Bodega Española, or the Kafi Schoffel.
The Rheinfelder Bierhalle doesn’t look appealing from the outside, and well, not really either from the inside. The place is usually quite crowded so you just have to be lucky to find a place to sit down. You’ll basically end up sitting pretty close to other people at some random table.
The waitresses are extremly slow and not really friendly. At least, they serve you pretty fast once you’ve got one of them to take your order.
The Bierhalle is known for something: the Jumbo-Jumbo Cordon Bleu (CHF 26.50). The Jumbo-Jumbo Cordon Bleu is pretty large and it’s very tasty! Make sure though, you’re hungry.
All in all, the Rheinfelder Bierhalle is a great place because of the Cordon Bleu, because it tastes great, it’s large and pretty cheap. You don’t have to go for the service though, or for the atmosphere, but the Cordon Bleu is worth going there.
