21. November 2010: Restaurant Brasserie Schiller

| November 22, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Brasserie Schiller is located right next to the Opera of Zurich. It is close to Bellevue and therefore easily reachable by public transportation (i.e. tram 2 or 4, stop “Opernhaus”). There are quite a few restaurants close to it, like the Restaurant Globus am Bellevue, the Outback Lodge, or the Restaurant Pumpstation.

The Brasserie Schiller looks nice from the outside as the building has a huge window front and looks pretty modern. Also the interior – once you’ve entered the restaurant – is pretty nice. It’s spacious, open, held in wood, and somehow inviting.

The waitress was very friendly and brought us to our table right away. It then took them quite some time to take our orders but at least we’ve been provided with bread and butter, salt and olive pate.

When we finally were able to place our orders, it took them still quite some time to serve us, but at least the brought the wine within a decent amount of time. As a starter I’ve had a beef tatar with quail egg on toast (CHF 21.00). It looked marvelous and tasted pretty good too. The meat was not as spicy as I wanted it to be though but it was quite good.

As a main dish, I had beef filet on a red wine jus (CHF 54.00) …

… with potatoes. The beef filet was made to the point (medium) and tasted great. It was extremly tender and in combination with the sauce, it was absolutely tasty.

As a desert, I had a cheese plate with three different cheeses which were quite okay in taste but not too outstanding or special (CHF 18.00). Also, they were a bit pricy for what you get offered.

All in all, the Brasserie Schiller has a nice atmosphere, fair and friendly service, pretty good food but is also a bit pricy when it comes paying. Still, it’s absolutely worth going as the quality of the food is accurate for the prices. In addition, it’s situated right next to the Opera so it’s the perfect place to go if you want to eat something before or after the opera.
