I started the blog in October 2009, while living in Milan which I definitely consider to be one of the food capitals of the world. I was in touch with food since my early childhood (as my father is a former chef). Whenever I can, I travel the world to discover new places, to meet people but mostly to try local dishes and to find hidden gems! If you know a place worth going, please drop a line to: info@thediningexperience.org.
Currently, I am a member of the following food-related associations: Chevalier @Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Zurich-Ville; Membre Gourmet Dégustateur @Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs [OMGD]; Gesellschafter @Goldener Fisch and Member @Slowfood Convivium Zurich City.
A pseudo-Thai tourist trap run by a French guy: Restaurant Baobab (10. January 2024)
Given I was kind of fed up with the limited food options in the hotel, I decided to try a place outside the hotel area, and ended up in the Baobab, which was advertised as a Thai restaurant. Which, well, it isn’t really. It’s run by a French guy and about 80% of the menu […]
Amazing sunset view, good service, and average food: Restaurant TawaNN @ Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa (9. January 2024)
And finally, it was time to try the last on premise restaurant – the TawaNN. And what I absolutely liked about this place was the attentiveness of the service, but also that you have a beautiful view onto the sea at sunset. The evening started with a small dumpling to get your palate going, which […]
Unacceptably slow service and average food: Pool Bar @ Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa (9. January 2024)
Unfortunately, the food offerings at the Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa are very limited. For lunch, you can basically visit the breakfast restaurant or the Pool Bar. Given, it was pool time, I went to the Pool bar to order a “Khao Pad (Thai style fried rice with chicken, served with a fried egg)” […]
Decent, but average breakfast: Restaurant Banana Leaf @ Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa (9. January 2024)
The breakfast offering in the Banana Leaf restaurant in the Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa is quite okay. It ranges from a range of juices … … to a few warm dishes like a curry, something stewed, fried rice and noodles … … as well as the more traditional Western breakfast elements like bacon, […]
A lovely restaurant, but somehow still not feeling it: Restaurant Ruen Noppagao (7. January 2024)
The Ruen Noppagao is in walking distance of the W Bangkok, but a bit hidden in a side street, hence, it is a place I would probably not have encountered if the hotel hadn’t recommended it to me. But, I must say, it was a good recommendation. There was a little welcome bite once you […]
A truly mind-blowing sensory experience with music pairing in The World’s 50 Best No. 17: Restaurant Gaggan Anand (6. January 2024)
Visiting Gaggan Anand has been on my to do list since December 2018. Back then, I tried to get a table at ‘Gaggan’ when in Bangkok, but it turned out to be impossible. Well, to be fair, I get why. If he was only close to what he offers today, then it’s no surprise that […]
A truly disappointing ‘rooftop’ bar experience: Rainforest Rooftop Bar (6. January 2024)
The search for a rooftop bar continued – and failed. The Rainforest rooftop bar belongs in the category of ‘false advertising’. I mean, frankly, the place doesn’t have anything to do with a rainforest (besides like two kind of small trees being there) and it is on the 7th floor, so one can barely call […]
