23. August 2010: Restaurant Bü’s

| August 24, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Bü’s is located more or less in the middle between Paradeplatz and Zurich main station. It’s easily reachable by foot or by one of the trams (6, 7, 11 or 13; Stop: Rennweg). It is situated in a little side street of Rennweg and looks nice from the outside as it has a large glass front. Little curtains prevent people on the street from starring at you while you’re eating inside – so privacy is ensured (to a certain degree). In its vicinity are other restaurants like the Restaurant Churrasco, the Bar @Carlton Hotel, or the Restaurant Bierfalken.

It is highly recommendable to reserve a table in advance and if you want to dine in the nicer part of the restaurant (towards the garden) it’s most recommendable to do so in time as this part of the restaurant seems to be booked out quite fast.

The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere but the part towards the garden is way more inviting than the part towards the street – still also this part has its charm. The restaurant is a bit dark and is nicely decorated with different bottles distributed all over the restaurant.

The waitress taking care of you is friendly and gives her best effort in helping you out in English (although clearly not her mother tongue). The service is quick and you’re provided with bread after a few seconds – also the first drinks on your table are served within very reasonable time.

The menu to choose from is not that big but offers a nice selection of soups, salads, starters, and especially meat. Furthermore, they offer a set menu where you can pick between 3 and 5 courses with dishes not being on the regular menu. The several-courses-meal is presented to you by the waitress.

I’ve went for a beef tatar as a starter which was very good in taste and spiced exactly the way I ask for. My company had a cold avocado soup which tasted somewhat good and somewhat weird – it carried a taste you weren’t quite able to say if you like it or not.

As a main dish, I’ve had Beef Tagliata with Rucola, Tomatoes and Fresh Parmesan cheese on top accompanied by “New Potatoes”. The beef was very tender and tasty and made a perfect fit together with the rucola, the tomatoes and the fresh parmesan cheese. Also, the side dish was very good in taste – the potatoes slightly roasted and salted with – supposedly – Sel de Fleur.

The wine card is not really big but has a nice selection of different wines – white and red. It could be a bit more exhaustive in my opinion especially as I prefer Italian wine and there were only a few. But otherwise, nothing to complain about.

The Restaurant Bü’s (run by Jörg Bühler) is a great place to go and enjoy dinner – especially if you manage to get a table in the “garden part” of the restaurant. The waitresses are very friendly and professional, the food is great, the atmosphere is nice and the price-performance ratio is fair. The place is not the cheapest to go for dinner but the food is worth every penny. Just don’t forget to make your reservation upfront!
