22. October 2010: Mr. Pickwick Pub
The Mr. Pickwick Pub is located within walking distance from the Lucerne main station. Therefore, it is easily reachable by various means of public transportation. The Mr. Pickwick Pub is part of the chain which also owns the Oliver Twist Pub in Zurich.
In the near vicinity of the Mr. Pickwick Pub there are several restaurants located like the Restaurant zum Weissen Kreuz [29. May 2010 | 15. October 2010] or the Restaurant Grendel 19.
The place looks from the outside like you’d expect a British pub to look like and this doesn’t change once you’ve entered the pub. It’s nice all in all, as it is how you expect it to be somehow, but nothing fancy (of course).
You get your beer at the counter and the lady behind the counter is friendly (but had apparently some issues with speaking English which is a bit surprising looking at the fact that in the Oliver Twist in Zurich they basically speak only English).
All in all, the Mr. Pickwick is an institution in Lucerne and it’s a great place to just go grab a beer. Also, they’re serving Guinness (if you like it) which you don’t find in too many bars around Lucerne. The prices are fair too (a regular beer and a Guinness cost around CHF 10.00 together). If you’re just looking for a nice place where you want to have a beer, the Mr. Pickwick is the perfect place to go.
