28. April 2011: Restaurant Wirtshaus zum Straubinger
The starter salad with roasted pits and pretzel croutons (EUR 6.00) is okay but nothing great really. There is not much sauce and the salad is kind of boring. The only thing which is a bit special and makes it stand out a slight little bit are the pretzel croutons (and not because of the taste but much more because I’ve never had such before).
The main dish was a Grilled sirloin steak with mushrooms bacon sauce, vegetables and fried potatoes (EUR 17.00) – the meat was okay. But the rest was pretty disappointing. The mushrooms came from a can and tasted accordingly. It’s just a massive no go – you cannot serve mushrooms from the can! Otherwise, if that would have been done differently and if it wasn’t for the potatoes, the dish wouldn’t have been that disappointing because the meat was good.
The fried potatoes were a major disappointment! The were not cooked enough, they were hard and didn’t taste like anything. The only good part was the meat – which was really okay. The rest was nothing to be speaking of (positively). For the fact that the main course cost EUR 17.00 – which is pretty much for Germany – I would definitely say that’s way too expensive for what you get.
The waitress was friendly and helpful but it took her way too long to bring the bill to our table. Besides that, it was okay. The atmosphere is okay, but nothing really appealing either. Overall, it’s a place where you get food – but that’s more or less it. I will not go again.
Close to it you can find other places like the Restaurant Zum Goldenen Kalb, or the Restaurant Valentin-Stüberl, or the Restaurant Frank’s Amici. All of them are more recommendable than this one.
